Ohio's Statewide Advisory Council

Ohio's Statewide Family Engagement Center is excited to announce the creation of a Statewide Advisory Council as part of Ohio’s new Statewide Family Engagement Center. We are seeking a diverse group of parents, guardians, and caretakers of children birth to Grade 12 from all regions of Ohio. You are invited to apply to be a part of this exciting opportunity to share your ideas on this Council about how Ohio families and schools can work together to support the education of all children. Language interpreters and other supports will be available at Council meetings if needed.

Early Childhood Playful Literacy Series: Phonological Awareness 9/26/18

Children who can manipulate sounds in language have an easier time learning to read.  Phonological awareness instruction produces positive effects on both reading and pseudoword reading, indicating that it help children decode novel words as well as remember how to read familiar words.

Reading-Tiered Inventory - Elementary, Secondary, and Local Literacy Plan

This professional learning session will include learning about the Reading-Tiered Inventory and how the inventory can facilitate the creation of a literacy team.  Participants will also learn about the State of Ohio Literacy Plan and how to create a local literacy plan that is aligned to the state plan.

This training is designed for those early learning and development teachers who are required to administer the Early learning Assessment.

UDL 102: How Do We Do This? 11/13/18

This session will take a deeper dive into the layers of the UDL guidelines while also reviewing learning barriers in goals, methods, materials, and assessments.

Dive Into UDL Book Study

In the true spirit of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Dive Into UDL: Immersive Practices to Develop Expert Learners meets the needs of practitioners at any level of education. The authors have designed a UDL personalized learning journey that allows readers to understand UDL by wading in, doing shallow swims, and taking deep dives. Readers are invited to customize how the book is used by choosing what to read and how to read it. The book and resources that accompany it are how to actually DO UDL! This book study is for individuals wanting to increase their knowledge at any level from exploration to classroom implementation. It is a self-paced study with assigned reading, activities, implementation, and reflection.

Early Learning Assessment (ELA) Refresher Training

This training is designed for teachers who have already been trained on the Early Learning Assessment and are interested in being updated on the changes to the ELA. This training will review the changes to the assessment, methods to use to capture evidence for scoring the assessment, and connections between the assessment and curriculum goals. An overview of the KReady system will also be included.

Child Outcomes Summary

Part 1
This training provides an introduction to the Child Outcomes Summary process, guidance on how to describe children’s functioning in the three outcome areas, and exploration of the five areas of essential knowledge that teams must have for completion of the COS process.


Part 2
This training will include key features of the Child Outcomes Summary process and the required information necessary to successfully complete the process. Participants will complete application activities and explore the requirements and resources specific to state policies about collecting child outcomes data.
