Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a framework of integrated supports designed to meet the achievement and behavioral needs of all learners through engaging, evidenced-based academic and behavioral practices. MTSS typically involves 3 components: Response to Intervention (RTI) for academic interventions; Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) for behavioral interventions; and a decision-making team (i.e., Intervention Assistance Team or IAT) that utilizes a 5-step decision-making process for meeting the needs of individual learners.
